Olivia | A Serene Maternity Session in Midday Light | Kelowna Maternity Photographer
As a photographer in Kelowna specializing in maternity, motherhood, babies, and family photography, I’ve always been drawn to the magic of golden hour—the way the sun kisses the earth just before it dips below the horizon, wrapping mamas-to-be in a soft, glowing embrace. But lately, I’ve felt the urge to stretch creatively, to explore light in new ways, and to challenge myself outside my usual rhythm.
This Kelowna maternity photography session was exactly that.
We met midday—under a sky that couldn’t quite make up its mind. One moment, it was overcast and gentle. The next, the sun peeked through, casting dramatic patches of light and warmth across the landscape. It was unpredictable, but also so beautiful in its own way.
The light wasn’t what I was used to, but that’s what made it inspiring. It made me pause, adjust, and truly see what was in front of me: a calm and radiant mama, so in tune with her body and the life growing within her. Her bare belly was soft and powerful, and there was something incredibly grounding about photographing her in this raw light—stripped of the golden glow, yet still full of quiet magic.
She stood gracefully among the shifting clouds and sunlight, a symbol of strength and softness all at once. It reminded me that maternity photography doesn’t always need to look dreamy to feel deeply emotional. Sometimes it’s the contrast, the unpredictability, and the quiet strength that tells the story best.
I left this midday light maternity session feeling renewed—grateful for the chance to create in a different kind of light, and honoured (as always) to hold space for a mother during such a sacred chapter in her life.
If you're a mama in the Kelowna, BC area and you’re dreaming of a maternity photography session that reflects your story—whether bathed in golden hour light, embraced by the honest beauty of midday or in the quiet space of my studio—I’d be so honoured to document it for you. My passion is capturing the authentic beauty of pregnancy and motherhood in every light.

Michelle
